The ambiguous zone is when a guy and a girl are talking to or spending time with each other, but neither one has made their intentions known to the other (i.e. they're both being indirect). As a result, neither party knows what the other person wants from them, and whether they see them in a romantic/sexual way or whether they were just being friendly and sociable with them. It just leaves room for confusion and misunderstandings to occur.
How many times do you see a guy talking to a woman in an indirect sort of way, sort of 'floating about', talking to her but never actually letting her know he's attracted to her and wants to hook up with her? Then he wonders to himself 'does she like me?' (as in like me in a romantic/sexual way). The woman is probably just as confused about what they guy wants from her too.
You never want to be in the 'ambiguous zone' with women. It really is 'no man's land', that middle ground where you haven't revealed your intentions to a girl, and she hasn't revealed hers to you. Some dating coaches refer to men who 'float about' women like this as 'male orbiters'. These are men who are in the 'ambiguous zone', they give women a lot of banter, friendly conversation and attention, but they're never Direct with them. You should never become a girl's 'male orbiter' under any circumstances.
The biggest problem with indirect approaches is that they mostly leave you in the 'ambiguous zone' with women. And in the 'ambiguous zone' you can easily have your time, money and effort wasted by women who are not genuinely interested in you.
Fortunately, the Direct approach once again comes to our rescue! When you are Direct with women, you will never find yourself in the 'ambiguous zone' with any girl you approach. Because you're upfront and honest with her about YOUR intentions, you'll find out pretty soon what HER intentions and and whether she's on the same page as you or not and wants to hook up with you romantically/sexually or not.
That's the way it works when you're Direct. No more 'ambiguous zone' nightmares ever again:-)
